Crenças éticas dos consumidores sobre o consumo de produtos ilegais no Brasil

This study assessed beliefs aon the consumption of illegal products in Brazil. Dishonest consumer behavior has been studied in several countries and this study attests to its contribution by identifying and acting on this research gap in Latin America. The qualitative method and an abductive exploratory approach were adopted. The review and adaptation of CES was carried out and supported the protocols of semi-structured interviews applied to fifteen participants, potential consumers selected at Shopping 25 de Março and Galeria Pagé, both in the central region of São Paulo city. The results suggest greater tolerance to dishonest acts in the no-harm dimension in relation to the other dimensions, with the main arguments being: availability, price of the illegal product and the low purchasing power of consumers. Consumers blame the government absence for the availability and magnitude of the illegal market in Brazil, they reject stolen products and accept pirated products in the same proportion. However, they argue that they have difficulty in differentiating what exactly is illegal, and do not recognize themselves as responsible for acting to refute dubious products. Regret would not be related to guilt or illegality, but to feeling deceived by the low quality of illegal products.
