Abstract

With technological advancement, there is a need to develop alternative products that are more accessible to people, using production processes that respect the environment, while establishing innovative and more economical techniques, making production methods cheaper. Selection of renewable biopolymeric materials, such as: carbohydrates, lipids and proteins for manufacture of pharmaceutical raw materials for use in curative treatments is very promising, since it allows the increase of bioactive dressings. Treatment of chronic wounds demands a lot of time and resources, moreover, it exposes the patient to high risks of complications, such as lower limb amputations in diabetic patients, which can lead to serious secondary infections due to antibiotic resistance and even death. The dressing, to be considered biocompatible, must have certain essential characteristics, such as keeping the wound bed moist, removing exudate, protecting the wound from the action of pathogenic microorganisms and not causing allergic reactions to the patient. There are records from prehistory of the use of medicinal plants in the treatment of diseases by means of potions containing plant extracts for therapeutic purposes. The use of Aloe vera extract, in treatment of wounds, allows for more oxygenation of the lesion, increases vascularization and the amount of collagen, which is an essential protein for tissue regeneration, so that healing occurs, in which the tissue is deflated and remodeled, promoting greater multiplication of skin cells. This study aims to use the design, according to Baxter, in the product development processes, to elaborate biopolymeric material, added with glycolic extract of Aloe vera and will be applied in the development of a bioactive dressing for treatment of chronic wounds and to carry out an experimental study by PERMATUS model of developed product of the curative coverage.
